About the Author
Deborah Muller is an artist, illustrator, pastor's wife, and gypsy at heart. Deborah was born in Laguna Beach, California, and lives in a quaint beachside town in Florida. She has lived abroad and continues to travel extensively, believing life is an adventure and it is important to enjoy the journey. Deborah is a graduate of the Brooks Institute and has been a full-time artist for over thirty years. Deborah has been a henna artist for fourteen years and her love for detailed henna patterns led her to develop the uniquely intricate drawing style she calls henna-doodles. Her hope is that readers find coloring her artwork a fun and inspiring experience.

Absolutely Wonderful

Posh Publishing recently released a set of 4 coloring books by Deborah Muller, each with a specific spiritual theme. They include 'Inspirational Quotes for Fun & Relaxation', 'Hymnspiratons for Joy & Praise', 'Prayers for Inspiration & Peace'...and finally 'God Is Good'. This last in the set arrived at my door from Amazon just this week.

I must admit that I almost didn't purchase this book. Why? Because each of these wonderful books contains 126 drawings, and I want to color them ALL. Every picture in these books is a work of art that inspires me as a colorist and a Christian. This latest book in no exception.

So, I am resigned to the idea that I will be coloring more than 500 pictures, before I complete all of Deborah's wonderful and heart touching volumes. At one per day, I won't complete that project for about a year and a half.

7 x 9.5 inches makes this book the perfect size to take along in your purse, briefcase or back pack. The cover is thicker than most coloring books...more like a hard cover book.

126 Designs of God's Infinite Greatness by Deborah Muller – printed on both sides of page

I first found her work in some spiral bound books and a Christian-based coloring calendar. I own the calendar and because of that wonderful artwork, I pre-ordered all four of these books. The first was general in nature but the last three, including this one, are Christian-based.

For me, it is the perfect coloring book to pull out when my spirits are down and I need to be reminded of who is in control. Many of the designs include Bible quotes that tell of God's promises. These are perfect to focus on when I think that life is spiraling out of control. It gives a perfect anchor to my spirit to color and contemplate the message.

For my first project, I chose to do Joshua 1:9. It was just the message I needed that particular day. I used Bic Mark-it alcohol-based markers even though they bled through. I will certainly be buying a second copy of this book as I want to color many of the designs and I like to use a variety of mediums.

I am always looking for good quality Christian coloring books that have great coloring opportunities. Ms. Muller's hand-drawn artwork is a lot of fun to color and have detailed and sometimes intricate parts to them.

I will provide a detailed explanation of what I found in the book below, but here is a quick overview:

126 Christian-based Designs
Designs are printed on both side of non-perforated white paper
Designs do not merge into binding
Binding is glued
Alcohol-based markers bleed through the page
Water-based markers are mixed with Tombows working the best
Gel pens work well and do not bleed through
Coloring pencils work well with this paper

The designs are printed on both sides of a medium weight non-perforated paper. All of the designs are limited to one page and they do not merge into the binding. As the binding is glued rather than sewn and as there is space between the design and the binding, you can cut the pages out without losing any of the design. I suggest that you do so carefully as you need to be sure not to damage the design on the back of the page. I was able to break the spine enough to get the book to lay fairly flat.

Most of the designs have finished elements on the sides and/or have a framing line that defines where the colorist can stop. I really appreciate this as it gives my project a good finished look when I am done. There are a few that are open-ended but the majority are well finished.

I test my coloring books for how they work with a variety of coloring medium (I will list those in the comments section below). Here is what I found in testing this coloring book:

All of my alcohol-based markers bled through the paper immediately. The water-based were rather mixed. My Tombow's did not leak through when I used the brush end but did with the fine point side. My other water-based markers did not bleed through completely but did leave color shadows on the back of the page. None of my gel pens leaked through and they did not require additional drying time. My coloring pencils worked great and behaved according to their lead type (hard/soft lead).

If you want to color with any medium other than coloring pencils or gel pens, there is a good chance you will destroy the design on the back of the page you are working on (and be sure to put a heavy weight piece of paper or card stock under your work so it won't leak through further.)

Beautiful book full of inspirational and scripture quotes as well as flowers and trees and cute animals to color. Book is approx. 7x9.5 it is printed on both sides of the pages completely full of hours of fun that can be spent worshiping and spending time with the Lord. I will use this book a lot I believe.

Simply Delicious

This second edition is a significant rewrite that contains lots of new concepts and examples. Focusing on visualization at a glance, this edition takes into account tools and technologies that have evolved since the first edition more than six years ago.

Stephen guides us through the mechanics of how humans perceive visualizations, and then translates that into guidelines we can use to synthesize data into effective dashboards. Far from being a dry read, his style is so direct and hard-lined I have to smile reading his work. For example, he shows (IN FULL COLOR) real examples of dashboards he's found, publicly flogging them down, telling us what not to do (woe unto him who ends up in a Stephen Few book). He then walks us through some excellent examples of dashboards, giving us clear vision for our own data.

If you build dashboards of any kind, you should definitely consider getting acquainted with Stephen's work.

Few encourages us to create "eloquence through simplicity"

Stephen Few has made significant contributions to the field of data visualization, publishing books like Show Me the Numbers: Designing Tables and Graphs to Enlighten, Now You See It: Simple Visualization Techniques for Quantitative Analysis, and Information Dashboard Design. Drawing inspiration from experts like Edward Tufte and Colin Ware, Few has a real talent for bringing theoretical concepts to life in a practical way.

The first edition of Information Dashboard Design: The Effective Visual Communication of Data, published in 2006, completely changed my approach to building dashboards. The second edition of Information Dashboard Design is a significant revision and rewrite of its predecessor, with lots of new material. It is a reflection of how the world of data visualization has changed since 2006. None of the data visualization tools available at that time supported Edward Tufte's sparklines or the author's own bullet charts. Nor were there Apple iPhones (released in 2007) and iPads (released in 2010) to display analytics. The changes are also reflected in the subtitle, which is now "displaying data for at-a-glance monitoring" instead of "the effective visual communication of data."

What has not changed since 2006 is software vendors' pursuit of gaudy impractical visualizations like exploding pie charts. The acknowledgements are classic Stephen Few:

"Without a doubt I owe the greatest debt of gratitude to the many software vendors who have done so much to make this book necessary by failing to address or even contemplate the visual design requirements of dashboards. Their kind disregard for visual design has given me focus, ignited my passion, and guaranteed my livelihood for years to come."

Although Few is well-known for his disdain of pie charts, his advice is grounded in the science of visual perception. He devotes entire chapters to sparklines and bullet charts. And he provides new guidelines for visualizing data on smartphones and tablets. The chapter "Putting it All Together" provides in-depth analysis of real dashboards submitted for a dashboard design competition. It's very instructive to see multiple dashboards attempting to meet the same set of business requirements, with varying degrees of success. And the book concludes with "From Imaging to Unveiling," a short but meaningful chapter about how to design for success. Not only is the content valuable, but the hardcover edition is beautifully rendered in color with high-quality materials.

This is a book about dashboard design- not implementation. It's not written exclusively for dashboard developers, but anyone who has an interest in bringing useful data visualization to life in their organization. Few's goal is "eloquence through simplicity" and he achieves it with this new book.

The paperback version of this book may be great, but the Kindle version has no pictures!!! Don't waste your money on the ebook. Buy the hard copy if you want the illustrations - as all of us do.

This is a nice book for a costumer

This is a nice book for a costumer. But the title is a little misleading since it is only about English hats and headdresses. Of course, more or less the same styles were worn at more or less the same time, but still I can't find the Italian Renaissance or the very distinctive 'Landsknecht'. To sum it up : there's nothing wrong with the book, only with the title.

I was a little disappointed in this book. the depth of info, the skill of the sketches and the presentation of descriptions is chronologically random to me. Its a place to start though, I suppose.

Tuck is a sticky-fingered, misunderstood boy from a floating atoll of scavengers whose existence is said to have brought bad luck to his family and his town. After the ship that Mara is on destroys part of his town, he sees his chance of escape and stows away on it. Their quest to build a future while trying to survive will keep teens involved from the first chapter. While familiarity with the first book is not a necessity, it is recommended. *Starred Review* In this sequel to Exodus (2008), 16-year-old Mara guides a ship of refugees north from New Mungo, hoping to find safe haven in Greenland now that their globally warmed world is almost completely submerged. Upon arrival their ship is sunk and they are enslaved by the barbaric inhabitants of Ilira, who live in apartment-style caves shuttered by automobile doors scavenged from the sea. Eventually Mara and a few others escape, hiking to an interior valley with a glacial lake where they settle permanently. Although told alternately by Mara, Fox, and Tuck, this is mostly Mara’s story—a plucky, imperfect heroine leading the way to an uncertain future in a hostile world filled with inhabitants who do whatever it takes to survive. Still, signs of hope emerge: Mara’s (and Fox’s) baby is born just as the group discovers their promised land; Fox finds encouragement in his campaign against world corruption; and Tuck rehabilitates himself from pirate and thief to builder of fantastic bridges. Sadly, Mara and Fox can no longer communicate (Tuck has stolen part of her cyberwizz, a tool for surfing the Weave), but with a forthcoming final volume in the works, fans can still hope for a reunion. Once again, Mara is setting sail, fleeing from one unstable place to the promise of others. Again she is headed north and again she is bringing bedraggled and hopeful survivors with her. Everyone is searching for the same thing. A safe place. A home. Land.

In a world where global warming has melted all of the polar ice caps and the world has been flooded, there doesn't seem to be much to hope for anymore. Mara led her family and friends north only to find that the New World city of New Mungo wasn't the salvation they had hoped for. Mara's cyberworld friend, Fox, has stayed behind to battle the corruption, while she sails north with Rowan, the Treenesters, the Urchins, and other escapees from New Mungo in search of the land Mara is sure exists.

Along the way, Mara will meet Tuck, a boy who has only ever lived on the sea. He lives on a floating "city" of connected boats, barges, and bridges, among people with a history of piracy. The navigational course that Fox programmed for Mara's ship didn't include such a civilization - and the ship causes damage to Tuck's people. He joins his people in pursuing the great ship with vengeance in his mind.

But, Tuck's people aren't the biggest threat facing Mara and the refugees of New Mungo. The safety of a distant land may also offer more danger than they ever imagined. And the very act of living is a hard-earned accomplishment as lives are won and lost in this inhospitable new world.

ZENITH is an exciting sequel to EXODUS; I found it to be even more intense and thrilling than the first novel. Julie Bertagna continues to describe a world that could be all too real if threats of global warming aren't taken to heart.

Not as great as I hoped, but...

This picks up right where the book Exodus leaves off. Mara is on a ship headed toward the top of the world after escaping New Mungo, the futuristic city in the sky. Mara isn't completely happy with this escape because she had to leave behind her beloved boyfriend (Fox). Fox decides to stay behind and cyber-fight the new city while Mara chooses to stay with her people and travel north--one of the only areas left in the world that has not been flooded by the oceans. When Mara and her people hit land, they are overjoyed...until they realize that people already living there plan to capture them and sell them as slaves.

Meanwhile, Tuck is on board a ship that is chasing Mara's ship north because he and his people want revenge for an accident Mara's ship caused. When they see Mara's ship being attacked, Tuck and his people use their weapons to fight the land-dwellers. When the battle is over, they head away but Tuck decides to stay on the land. Eventually, he joins Mara's group as they all search for a livable space on this strange new land at the top of the world.

This is a good story describing what Mara and the others go through as they fight for survival in a world that is nearly completely covered in water. Although they endure many hardships and lives are lost, they don't give up. We'll see what becomes of them in the upcoming final book in this series.

Definitely Intriguting and with Fascinating Settings

Mara Bell is leading a boat of Treenesters, urchins, and freed slaves in search of Greenland. But as they head toward what they think is land, their boat crashes into a floating city of barges and bridges.

Whilst definitely intriguing and with fascinating settings, ZENITH is not quite as grabbing as its predecessor, EXODUS. Maybe it's due to the lack of technology, or that I just didn't connect with the characters. Mara was awesome in Book 1, but here...she's less fabulous. However, the imagery is simply splendid, making me wish I could see aurora borealis (I don't think it's visible here in the Southern Hemisphere). The writing is lush, almost poetic at times, and I can't wait to read what'll happen in Book 3, AURORA. However, its publication is at least a year away, I'm guessing, but it leaves newcomers with plenty of time to acquire and devour Books 1 and 2. Futuristic YA is all the richer with Julie Bertagna's innovative contributions.

Very clear and informative. This is a very good material for an undergraduate/graduate course. Straight to the point with focus on details. The only bad thing is that the kindle edition is not perfect (some images are bigger than the margins) but the printed version is flawless.

About the Author

Douglas Rushkoff is the bestselling author of Present Shock, as well as a dozen other books on media, technology, and culture, including Program or Be Programmed and Life Inc. Named one of the world’s ten most influential thinkers by MIT, he has made documentaries for PBS Frontline, including Generation Like and The Merchants of Cool, and he is a professor of media theory and digital economics at Queens College, CUNY. He lives in New York and lectures about media, society, and economics around the world.

Excellent analysis of modern-day capitalism and its ills

Fantastic read, really enjoyed it.

Now, most of you will read the above and go "meh" - but the amazing thing about it is that the writer probably qualifies for what I am used to call an "unhinged liberal" while my political leanings are to the right of Mrs Thatcher - so, it's quite an amazing feat that I didn't read the first few pages and (figuratively) burnt it in our fireplace.

Instead, I really enjoyed the way the author managed to articulate and put in very convincing words a sense of unease with the way things are here in Silicon Valley... because, hell, yes, I used to work at Google, I had a four year stint at various VC-funded startups and I'm now at Apple -- most of what Mr Rushkoff says is, indeed, very true.

Now, I'm no historian, and too lazy to do some real research to find out whether what he says about Middle Age Italian commerce (and, yes, I'm from Italy too) is real or a conveniently warped version of it - but definitely the hollowing out of the workers' skills to the benefit of the capital aristocracy is an absolute reality in today's software industry, the most blatant effect the transfer of work from skilled, experienced developers to low-skilled, cheap and disposable outsourced masses - with the attendant "externalities" (in other words: the various Oracle and Microsoft reap the benefits, and you're left holding the candle of insecure, badly written and buggy software in your home PC, vulnerable to all sorts of malware).

It is also clear how the VCs (and, to a large extent, startup founders) are reaping the benefits of "cheap workers" (who accept to be paid in "fantasy money" aka hugely overvalued and, ultimately, worthless stock options) while society is left holding the candle of large number of workers who, after years of very hard work, are left with no jobs or healthcare.

And if the above makes you cringe your nose and want to go vote for Trump, trust me, I'd have been the first to yell "liberal nonsense!" -- and instead, I greatly enjoyed reading the well researched, measured and carefully articulated arguments, and appreciate that, indeed, all is not well in the Enchanted Land of the Unicorns.

Granted, there are parts of the book (especially in the last chapters) that are a bit too "unhinged liberal Kumbala feel-good utopia" - but one can happily skim them, and still find value in the book.

Very good. My first book by D. Ruskhoff - but certainly not the last. If you want to understand how current digital economy and (private) investment works - read this book. Clear, concise with a good narration and with enough facts to support the author's point of view.
